You will start spending your points in the shadow tree up until you reach a build similar to mine after which you move to the discipline tree. The reason I only filled this built up to level 74 is because there are many talents that you may or may not want to get. This may vary depending on your mana usage, whether you’re on a PvP realm or simply your playstyle. Besides Pain and Suffering and Improved Mind Blast every talent that was skipped, or not taken completely are excellent talents depending on the situations. If you really desire talents such as Silence or Physic Horror you could even pick them up before switching over to Discipline.

Let’s talk about some of the important talents. You first talent should be Spirit Tap. The reason for this is that it gives you ridiculous amounts of mana regain whenever you kill a target. After that go for Darkness into Mind Flay. Mind Flay is one of those key abilities that will help you level a lot smoother. The damage of Mind Flay isn’t quite where it will be as you hit the higher levels but the snare is still vital. Once you pick up Shadow Weaving I suggest you do your best to make sure you keep this buff up. As such you should quickly move to the next target as you kill a monster. At level 50 you will finally be able to pick up Vampiric Touch. Obtaining this ability should cause you to start every fight by casting this spell followed by mind blast. This will apply the replenishment buff restoring a good amount of mana. This combined with the mana efficient and high damage of Vampiric Touch makes it a no brainer. At this point you finally get close to Dispersion. In most situations you will find yourself using this to keep your mana up, but it can also be an excellent life saver as for the 6 seconds duration it also reduces damage taken by 90%. Yeah, 90%.

All in all the Shadow Priest has a playstyle that you must enjoy. You can kill multiple targets at once with good use of your Damage over Time spells and Vampiric Embrace. If that’s not your kind of thing you can easily melt targets in single combat aswell. The Shadow tree is an excellent option for priests quickly wanting to level to 80 to start healing or dealing damage in the end game content.
